It doesn’t happen overnight, but cultivating mom friends is easier than some of you think. Let’s clarify, by “mom friends” we mean a friend who has a similar mommy-lifestyle as you and trust us, they’re out there. It’s all about putting yourself out there. There are places you can go and activities you can participate in where many mommies just like you who are looking for a friend too.

It sounds obvious, but the playground is a great place to meet and greet mom friends. If your kids are playing at the same playground, chances are your families live fairly close to one another. Right there is a big check off for convenience, something all moms value.

Take advantage of your children’s play dates. Invite the fellow mom in for coffee or tea when they come to drop off or pick up.

School activities and sports games are a great place to find moms whose kid’s go to the same schools yours do. Sitting in the bleachers before a basketball game? Strike up a conversation with a fellow mom. Suggesting trading off carpool is a great icebreaker!

For moms with babies and toddlers, there are a plethora of playgroups and mommy and me classes out there. Take advantage of them! Check out Gymboree’s Play and Music classes on the third floor of Bellevue Square Mall.

Once you’ve made a few mom acquaintances keep the contact going, be proactive!
